Library of Mmakkis
Maria Stefanovic
Ego Sum Omnia · Ego Sum Nihil · Ego Sum Omne
Every woman is a library.
Some of us are just learning to read ourselves.
My name is Maki.
Not the name I was given at birth,
the name I was given.
By my cousin, on a visit to Serbia with my mother, when I was still young enough to let someone else name what they saw in me. He called me Maki, the way you call someone something true.
I am midlife's explorer. Obsessed with the space between death and rebirth. For me, that's where hope lives.
In that return I reached for my genuine curiosity and explored anthropology, history, cultural transitions, spirituality, sovereignty, psychology, and physics. It started with Women Who Run With the Wolves, a book that cracked something open and never let it close again. Each discipline a thread. Each thread leading somewhere older, something truer.
I became obsessed with words. Not just what they mean but what they do. The difference between a noun and a verb is the difference between a thing and a living. Identity became becoming. Belonging became returning. Love became the container.
And underneath all of it, one question: what does it mean to truly belong? To everything, to nothing, and to all. That is what I am building here.
I know that space intimately.
I self-sabotaged a professional career I had built sacrificing my truth, performing constantly for everyone else, changing like a chameleon to fit the life I had constructed. Ashamed of my roots. Always armored. Showing up for everyone but myself.
I went dark for three years.
The path was gritty, raw and real.
In that return I leaned into my deep knowing to lead me to the next rebirth cycle. I reached for my genuine curiosity and explored anthropology, history, cultural transitions, spirituality, sovereignty, psychology, and physics. It started with Women Who Run With the Wolves by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, a book that cracked something open and never let it close again. Each discipline a thread. Each thread leading somewhere older, something truer.
Out of that return, Library of Mmakkis was born.
What is Mmakkis?
A living archive of one woman's excavation into what we carry in our bodies, our silences, and our bloodlines. Not a guide. A witness. A sacred space. Like a confessional: witnessed, held, compassionate.
Who is this for?
For the ones feeling unhinged at the root and searching. For the displaced, whose bones remember something their minds cannot name yet. For anyone in midlife whose intuition is screaming to get rooted and flower. For women, and not only women. Anyone who needs a sister in their journey.
Who is this not for?
Anyone looking to hack their way to reconnection with themselves, their ancestors, their future generations. This is the slow sacred work. There are no shortcuts here.
The Promise
Essays. Research. Personal excavation. Ancestral memory. The matrilineal thread followed all the way back and all the way forward. And a promise: we are in it together.
The same woman walks through all three rooms. The voice is always Maki. The texture changes. The root does not.
The Personal Thread
Intimate. Sometimes hard. Sometimes crunchy.
Maki is mid-process, inside the discovery as it happens. The reader is not receiving wisdom. They are being invited into the unfinished. This is the most vulnerable room. Still direct. Still rooted. But softer in the way that excavation is soft: careful, slow, handling something fragile.
The Ancestral Thread
Curious. Reflective. Whole.
The return journey. The voice carries a particular quality, like someone walking familiar land for the first time. Reverent without being religious. Expansive. This room breathes differently. There is more space between the words. The maternal line. The story of the X chromosome in the bones.
The Scientific Thread
Academic meets generous curiosity.
The biological, physiological, psychological, anthropological, all of it in service of the same return. This room invites the reader to think alongside Maki. The rigor is real. The questions are serious. The curiosity is alive and generous. Not established science. A question pursued seriously, carefully, and honestly.
Maki speaks with the rare authority of someone who has lived the work. Her talks are not performances. They are invitations into depth, into honesty, into reclamation.
The X Chromosome & the Sacred Feminine

Maki & Guest Co-Hosts
New Episodes Every TuesdayIntegrity isn't a destination. It is a living practice. Maki holds unfiltered conversations with guest co-hosts about what it means to walk in alignment: with your values, your body, your wounds, and your wildness. Expect truth, tears, and the occasional revelation. This is what integrity sounds like when it's actually being lived.

I help organizations, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs build from the root up, using a matriarchal framework that centers wholeness, reciprocity, and sustainable growth.
Most structures are built on extraction. The work here is built on something different: the understanding that thriving organizations, like thriving ecosystems, need nourishment, not just optimization. I bring 24 years of building businesses, nonprofits, cultural institutions, and community spaces to every engagement.
Through Mmakkis LLC, I work with clients to align their operations, their mission, and their culture into something coherent, living, and deeply intentional. Not a turnaround. A homecoming.

About Maki
I am Maria Stefanovic. Maki. A founder, a builder, a community architect, a visual artist, a nonprofit leader, a consultant. 24+ years of showing up for communities, organizations, and spaces that hold people.
And then, I went dark for three years. The path was gritty, raw, and real. In that return I leaned into my deep knowing. Out of that return, Library of Mmakkis was born.
A Theory of the Transition Space
Between Death and Rebirth, I landed on three rungs.
Reenactment
The lowest rung. The message repeats itself because it has not yet been recognized. The pattern runs again, unchanged, because nothing has shifted in how it is received.
Rehabilitation
The moment recognition arrives. I see it. I am aware. I want to change, to grow. The message has finally been heard, even if the new way of being has not yet been practiced into the body.
Recalibration
The message fully received: seen, heard, and validated. What was learned is no longer just known. It is being lived. The instrument itself has adjusted, and the old groove no longer has the final word.
